Terms & Conditions
Effective Date: June 23, 2026 | Last Updated: June 23, 2026
1. Rental Agreement
By booking a car or accepting a consultation with Far East Rent-a-Car, located at G/F, 8 Cleveland Street, Causeway Bay, you enter into a binding legal contract governed by these Terms & Conditions. The "Renter" or "Customer" represents the individual or corporation registering for the vehicle. "Far East" refers to Far East Rent-a-Car.
2. Driving Qualifications & Age Limits
To legally command any vehicle from our premium fleet, the designated drivers must satisfy the following criteria at the time of pick-up:
- Minimum Age: Drivers must be at least 25 years of age for Economy and SUV classes. A minimum age of 28 is strictly required for Sports Performance and Premium VIP classes (e.g., Porsche, Toyota Alphard).
- Driving Experience: Drivers must hold a valid, unexpired national driver's license for a minimum of 2 consecutive years without any serious driving bans or suspension records.
- International Drivers: Visitors holding non-Hong Kong licenses must carry their original passport and a valid International Driving Permit (IDP) or an officially certified English translation, depending on the issuing country's transit classification.
3. Security Deposits & Payments
A security deposit is required for all rentals to guard against vehicle damage, late returns, fuel discrepancies, or traffic fines:
- Deposit Hold: A credit card pre-authorization hold is processed at hand-over. Deposit amounts vary from HK$5,000 for Economy Hatchbacks to HK$25,000 for Supercars.
- Refund Policy: Holds are released within 7 to 14 business days after a clean return, subject to your banking institution's processing cycles and verification of outstanding toll fees.
- Payment Options: Rental payments are accepted via Visa, MasterCard, American Express, UnionPay, or WeChat Pay/Alipay. We do not accept personal checks.
4. Insurance & Liability
All rental rates include Comprehensive Third-Party Motor Insurance as mandated by Hong Kong Transport regulations:
- Insurance Deductible (Excess): In the event of vehicle collision, damage, or theft, the renter remains responsible for a pre-established insurance excess. Deductibles range between HK$10,000 and HK$50,000 based on vehicle category.
- Insurance Exclusions: Comprehensive coverage becomes entirely null and void if the vehicle is driven by unauthorized operators, operated under the influence of alcohol/drugs, driven off-road, or loaded beyond legal passenger limitations.
- Collision Damage Waiver (CDW): Renters can choose to purchase our optional CDW package to slash their deductible liability by up to 75%.
5. Fuel Policy & Vehicle Care
- Like-for-Like Fuel Policy: Every car is provided to the Customer with a full or documented level of fuel. It must be returned with the equivalent fuel level. Surcharges of HK$150 plus fuel cost apply for refueling discrepancies.
- Strict No-Smoking Policy: Smoking or vaping is strictly prohibited inside all fleet vehicles. A specialized cleaning/deodorizing fee of HK$3,000 will be charged if smoking residue or smells are detected.
- Vehicle Condition: Cars must be returned in reasonable clean conditions. Heavy interior mud, liquid spills, or persistent stains will trigger a detailed professional grooming charge of HK$1,500.
6. Cross-Border & Regional Travel Limitations
Vehicles rented under standard contracts are strictly confined to the borders of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region. Crossing boundaries into mainland China (Shenzhen, Guangdong province) or Macau requires specialized cross-border dual-license permits, custom insurance plans, and explicit written approval from Far East Rent-a-Car. Unauthorized border crossings will trigger an immediate safety hold on the engine, contract termination, and a complete forfeiture of security deposits.
7. Traffic Violations, Tolls, & Parking
The Renter holds complete legal responsibility for all speeding fines, red-light citations, illegal parking tickets, tunnel toll charges (including Autotoll fees), and bridge crossings incurred during the duration of the rental. Far East will supply relevant driver details to the HKSAR traffic police department upon receiving standard violation notices. A handling administrative fee of HK$350 is charged for processing each infraction.
